Celebrating National Military Spouse Appreciation Day

With 9 May 2025 marking National Military Spouse Appreciation Day, Salute and EdgeConneX are proud to reflect on the quiet resilience, adaptability, and strength of those most closely affected by military service.

To paraphrase Rebecca Thigpen, our Talent Acquisition Team Lead for the EMEA region, we are always struck by the ability of military veterans “to find strength in the unexpected.” Although most are aware, only those who have endured the extraordinary sacrifices inherent to military life, such as long periods of absence or near-constant relocations, can truly appreciate just how often they’re forced to tackle “unexpected curveballs,” in the words of Katie Bradfield, EdgeConneX’s Senior Manager for Global Payroll & Benefits.

We’re keenly aware that the ability to navigate these unique challenges, while incredibly personally challenging, is by no means wasted in the professional sphere. To give just one of countless examples, as noted by both Terah Schwisow, a Junior Talent Acquisition Associate at Salute, and Krystyna Witt, Director for Solutions Architecture at EdgeConneX, the need to balance shifting responsibilities and support loved ones through constant change ensures military spouses are uniquely oriented toward perseverance, adaptability, and maintaining a positive outlook when adjusting to new communities.

Our Team Members in Their Own Words

In the words of Danielle Lovato, the Team Lead for Shared Services at Salute, “the ability to adapt, stay grounded, and lead with love through constant change naturally provides resilience, patience, and perspective, all of which I carry with me into every aspect of my life, including my work.” Similar sentiments have been voiced by Jillian Bird, Operations Support Team Manager at Salute, who credits her background as a military spouse for a natural ability to remain focused, flexible, and solution-oriented as key factors in her success as an administrative support professional.

All told, as is often observed at both Salute and EdgeConneX, military spouses possess a steady, solution-focused mindset, shaped by years of adapting to change, that continues to guide them as they lead, support teams, and drive meaningful impact across our organizations. As Carine Boone, Junior Talent Acquisition Associate at Salute, puts it, “in a life full of constant change, I’ve learned to inhale the new and exhale the old, embracing each shift with resilience.”
