Data Center Technician I and II

TECHNICIAN LEVEL-I

Technical Skill Requirements

  • Knowledge of how to properly utilize power tools
  • Ability to follow precise instructions
  • Perform material movement, including shipping/receiving and inventory management per standard process
  • Detailed physical inventory tracking and staging
  • Ability to read and understand cabling maps
  • Perform datacenter pre-cabling to industry standards
  • Must be able to lift over 50 pounds
  • Ability to work at different heights, in confined spaces, and on different surfaces
  • Working knowledge on creating/closing/tracking work orders
  • Initiate or respond to work orders, follow up and verify completion
  • Manage or navigate various client-based applications that might include: work order tracking, materials ordering/tracking, scheduling, and video conferencing
  • Ability to use mobile application technology
  • Proficient in Microsoft word, excel, outlook, and teams. gain proficiency in workplace it systems for reporting, timecards, expense entry, and the execution of project tasks (examples: salesforce, adp, expensify)
  • Timely responsiveness via MS outlook, MS team, text, and/or phone

TECHNICIAN LEVEL- II

Technical Skill Requirements

  • Same as technician level-i with the following additions:
  • Experience in a facility-focused environment with an aptitude to learn and grow in the field of technical operations and maintenance support of electrical and HVAC systems.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the operation, installation, and maintenance of data center critical equipment.
  • Building systems with a technical understanding and knowledge of HVAC and electrical equipment and components
  • Additional experience in plumbing, fire/life safety, and associated systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment, including Feeders, Transformers, Generators, Switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units, Chillers, Air handling units, and CRAC units.
  • Strong observation skills and problem-solving ability
  • Class 1,3,4,5 and 7 forklift certification
  • Ability to obtain certification for boom and scissors lift
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to use basic test equipment (voltmeter, power meter (fiber), cable tester, and visual fault locator)
  • Ability to lift material, IT servers, and equipment in execution of the responsibilities and scope of work described

Required Job Tasks

  • Same as technician level-i with the following additions:
  • Operate/Monitor/Maintain/Respond to abnormal conditions in facility systems
  • Complete planned/ad-hoc preventive maintenance
  • Conduct period inspections of building systems
  • Rapid response/investigation/management of indoor emergency situations and air quality complaints
  • Manage or navigate various client-based applications that might include: work order tracking, materials ordering/tracking, scheduling, and video conferencing
